March 16, 2020
Dear Friends,
World events have changed rapidly these past few weeks as Canada and other world nations battle to fight the spread of the coronavirus and the COVID 19 disease. Our highest priority is your health and safety and those of your friends and family. As such the leadership of Chown Memorial and Chinese United has made the decision to cancel worship services and all fellowship meetings.
Worship Services: Sunday worship services on March 22 and March 29 at 10 am and 11:30 am are cancelled. The church leadership will monitor the situation and keep you informed of further updates. Please consult our website for updated information or call the church office at 604-876-7114.
Fellowship Meetings: Fellowship meetings are cancelled starting the week of March 16 until further notice. The church leadership will continue to monitor the situation and inform the groups of reinstatement when the situation is resolved.
As advised by the Chief Health Officer of BC and the BC Minister of Health, these actions will protect the most vulnerable people in our community including seniors and those with low immunity. Please stay informed regarding self-quarantine protocol and how to stay healthy with information from the health authorities including the BC Centre for Disease Control (www.bccdc.ca) The province has created a phone service to provide non-medical information about COVID-19. Information is available in more than 110 languages, 7:30 am - 8 pm at 1-888-COVID19 (1-888-268-4319) or via text message at 604-630-0300.
This is a big change for many who come to church to worship together in Christ. However, God’s Ministry does not stop even when we do not meet. We are the body of Christ and each part of the body needs one another. We are called to encourage one another and to bless and serve our world. We want to instill our sense of community throughout this time even though we are unable to meet. We ask that leaders and group fellowship members to stay in touch by phone, email or facetime but NOT in person. If you know of someone who is in need of pastoral care please email cmcuc1130@gmail.com or phone 604-876-7114 and leave a message.
Chown Memorial and Chinese United leadership (which includes the ministers) will continue to monitor the situation regarding the virus and provide updates accordingly. Please continue to pray for this crisis and the world. We trust God to protect us and give us wisdom in this situation. We pray our actions will help keep the virus contained and lessen the impact on our health care system.
In Christ,
Patsy Seto
Congregational Chair of Chown Memorial and Chinese United Church
